Fakistra-Mylopotamos,Pelion

Fakistra.

On a small bay surrounded by imposing and steep rocks is Fakistra, a secluded beach of wild and primitive beauty. Fakistra is located in eastern Pelion close to Tsagarada. The clean turquoise Aegean waters, fine sand with tiny pebbles and cliffs surrounding landscape is what makes it memorable.

It’s isolated and undeveloped without of course, being negative factors. No sunbeds, umbrellas and shops around, however there are lovely places to discover.

One of these is the impressive sea cave of Panagias Megalomatas (Virgin Mary) at the north section of the beach that features many stalactites. Just above is another sea cave known as Kryfo Scholio (Secret School). In reality it’s a chapel, build within the rock that during the Ottoman occupation served as a secret school. Among the areas’ natural beauties is the impressive waterfall located behind the beach and the dense vegetation paths that lead to villages such as Damouchari and Agios Ioannis.

You can reach the area of Fakistra by driving your car, which you’ll park at the large plateau that you’ll come across before the beach. You will have to to go down a path which is 400meters long, that’s why you must wear flat shoes.

Mylopotamos.

Mylopotamos located in the Aegean side of East Pelion .It is the multi photographed beacch of Pelion and it is 7km away from Tsagarada. One of the most famous and picturesque beaches attracting every year thousands of visitors during summer months. Its exotic characteristics are the golden sand combined with thin white pebbles and the turquoise waters.

At the middle of the beach is a big rock that continues through the sea and seems to be splitting the beach into half. The only point that the two sides connect is through a hole in the rock. The entire beach is surrounded by rocks while on the other side is a stream whose waters reach the sea.

Access to the beach is easy either by car or by bus from Tsagkarada. However, note that if going by car, during weekends, holidays and peak times, parking isn’t easy. Also remember that you park your car above the beach and walk down steps to reach the beach.
